FAQs.....

• "When can I apply?" 5/13/08
Schools who did not apply, or were not awarded a grant in 2007-08, can next apply in June 2009.
Availability of grant dollars will be dependent upon OAAE's success in maintaining the grant as a line item in the ODE biennium budget. ALL teachers can help in this effort by 1) keeping your administration aware of how you use your summer extended programming days as an extension of your 9-month curriculum, 2) share information with your state representatives to the Ohio General Assembly, and 3) join your professional organization and support the efforts of their legislative network.

For those receiving grants in 2007-08: Grants awarded in FY08 may be automatically renewed if the district 1) submits the treasurer's Final Expense Report no later than July 31, 2008; 2) teacher submits all evaluation data no later than June 18, 2008; and 3) District completes and submits a new Cover Section, Activities Section and Budget Section no later than June 18, 2008.

The 2008-09 application and instructions for completing the process are available for download by clicking the following links. The application is contained in a compressed, zip file. Check with your school IT person if you have problems downloading as they may have this type of file blocked.

For those interested in making application in 2009-10, you may find that reviewing the previous grant process to be of value as you make plans to submit in June 2009:

• "How do you select those who will be awarded a grant?
In 2007-08 , applications were selected on a first-come, first-served basis. Only one application needed to be submitted per school district, meaning that if a school had multiple teachers, the district combined their request into one single application. The application process was considered closed once all grant dollars have been allocated.
• How many dollars are associated with a grant?
In 2007-08, grants were accepted for ten days of additional extended programming ($2,000), or twenty days of additional extended programming ($4,000), per licensed instructor. The purpose of the grant was to extend the teacher(s)' current summer instructional days.
• "How must the grant dollars be spent?"
In 2007-08, the dollars were documented as being used to offset the costs of the teacher(s)' summer extended programming contract (salary, fringes, retirement).
• "What exactly is 'extended programming?'"
The intent of the 5th Quarter Grant is to increase the number of contact days an instructor has with their students during the summer months of July-August and the following June. Related activities should be instructional in nature and promote the quality of SAEs conducted by the students. Examples include, but are not limited to, small group instruction, one-on-one instruction, on-site visitation and instruction.
• Who actually receives the money from the grant?
In 2007-08, all grant dollars were awarded to the applying school district with the understanding that dollars be used to offset the cost of the additional days of extended programming. All dollars must be coded as employment and associated costs.
