Living History - The Underground Railroad

"The time is 1851, a time when millions in our country were risking their lives for basic rights and freedoms. As a runaway slave, guided by a skilled and courageous conductor, you are risking everything as you travel north toward Canada and toward your freedom."

History comes to life with the Underground Railroad Living History program. Students can experience what it was like to be a slave on the run to freedom. Along the way they are chased by slave hunters, helped by friendly abolitionists, and taught an important leasson about what that time in America's history meant then and what it means now.

Challenging students to make positive changes toward their understanding and respect for all people, this unique and powerful program brings history to life in a rare way.

"The world is full of compensations. He who would be no slave must consent to have no slaves. Those who deny freedom from others, deserve it not for themselves." - Abraham Lincoln
