Wow What a Winter!
January 4, 2008 12:12 PM

Hello Ohio FFA,

It has been a long time. Sorry for the delay. I have been running around doing FFA, college, the holidays, and anticipation of my nephew.

Since I last blogged I have visited West Branch, Firelands, Barnesville, and Triway high schools. I also visited the Wayne County JVS.

On my way to West Branch I almost got lost but lucky for me I can read a map and was only one road off. When I finally got there I met with Mr. Bardo who graciously offered me some breakfast, which I was great full for because I had not had the chance to eat before I got there. I thank everyone for being so participative.

Next was to Firelands for a Greenhand Ceremony. At fist I wondered if the Greenhands were going to talk cause I could only get a word or two from them, by the end of the night I had a few of them talking to me. I had a great time getting to know some of our organizations newest members and I wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors.

Next stop, Barnesville Ohio. This was a rather interesting trip. I was getting everything together that I needed, how long it was going to take to get there, do I have everything, when do I need to leave. Then my dad walks in the room as I was finishing everything up and has to ask what I am doing so I tell him my plans. He then informs me that it will take three hours not two to get there. My dad is a truck driver and I figured you know he must know what he is talking about so I go with it. Well lone behold I arrive an hour early. So I have never been to Barnesville and I was trying to figure out what I was going to do for an hour. I drove around and learned that there are about 7 pizza places within a quarter mile stretch. That I found to be a little odd. When my hour was finally up I arrived at the school and was talking to the teacher and it was not the teacher that I had been emailing, or was it? Turns out that it was she had just gotten married and the information that I had was not updated. The ceremony started and we ate and did the whole ceremony thing and I was not the only speaker that night. A member and her dad spoke just before I did and I could see that they were both really nervous and I do not blame them. Public speaking is feared more than death, odd. They did a very good job and I commend them for taking such a task. I did my speech and talked to members afterwards and said my goodbyes and headed home. Well on the way home nothing was different other than I got about 30 miles from Wooster and hit a detour that was not there on the way to. I got home an hour later than planned because of the detour but I got to see some places I had never seen before. It was quite the night.

On the next part of the road trip was a stop at the Wayne County JVS's animal care program. I was a little worried on my way to this one because we received a layer of snow and ice the night before and almost ended up in the ditch, but lucky for me I didn't. I arrived and met some of the students as we were waiting for the teacher to arrive. When the teacher arrived the first thing that happened was the students went to get animals and feed. Once I got done with my presentation I was introduced to a Sugar Glider. A sugar glider is kind of like a flying squirrel; they come from Australia and are very fuzzy. I also got to help with the moving in of the fruit that they had sold during their fruit sales. We had a great time playing with the animals and moving fruit around. I sure would love to get a sugar glider some day.

Next was Triway's visit. I had a good time talking to some old friends meeting new ones. That day was there best-decorated door contest and they did not win but it was a really good display. For lunch the members brought in a variety of different foods. I was stuffed by the time I got around to trying everything. The next night I joined them for a fun night of bowling. We had a great time and had some friendly competition going on.

Last but not least I have been waiting for a week for my nephew to finally arrive and on Wednesday my sister had a c-section and he is a very healthy 9lbs 4oz.

Hope everyone had a great holiday and I will see you around.

Busy Busy Busy......

Hey Ohio FFA,

I have been busy. I have visited chapters, gone to national convention, a leadership night and a greenhand ceremony.

My first visit was at Southeast High School were the members showed me a great time. I had the chance to eat lunch with some of the chapter officers and learn a little more about the different programs that Southeast has. A couple of members showed me around the shop and told me about the projects that they are working on. I hope that all goes well on building the go-cart.

Next I traveled to Minerva High School. The first thing that I noticed when I walked into the building was a port-a-pot painted with Michigan colors. Of course I had to ask. Every year Mr. Glavan gets his students to do some sort of a Michigan project. Mr. Glavan is such a huge Buckeyes fan that his roof is the Ohio State block O. Some other projects that members are working on is they are trying to raise some shrimp. Now I guess they tried this once and someone got hungry and decided to cook the shrimp and eat them, so I hope that it goes better for you this time.

My next stop was national convention. Wow, talk about a week of fun and learning. The keynote speakers were great and there messages were very important. For those of you who missed national convention you can go to ffa.org and get all of the podcasts. Of course the highlight of national convention was the Buckeye Bash. I had a great time meeting up with friends met at camp this summer and meeting new members. If you get the chance you should take a look at the training video that we made for the soulja boy song.

After national convention it was off to River Valley Leadership Night. Meeting all sorts of new members was awesome. I had the chance play guitar hero and show my pathetic skills, but I had a blast trying. I also watched Night at the Museum with a few of the members that showed up. I wish that I could have stayed all night but I had to be at school the next morning.

My final stop on this run was a Greenhand Ceremony at Norwayne. It felt good to be back at home. I enjoyed the hog roast that goes along with the night. Had the chance to catch up with some past district 3 presidents as well. Congratulations to those members who received there Greenhand Degree. I hope that you will continue on and eventually receive the American Degree.

Well now that I have wrote a book and you have caught up to what I have been up to, I hope that all of you have been enjoying this year as much as I have. Untill next time keep it real Ohio.

Hey Ohio FFA,

Hope all is going good. I know that I have been doing great. Greenhand Camp was a blast. I had a great time getting to know some of Ohio's newest FFA members. I hope that all of the teachers and Greenhand’s had as good of a time as I did. Everyone that attended got active and did the crazy things that we asked of them. To the groups that I had in adventure valley you were great. To everyone I hope that you take advantage of everything that you possibly can in the FFA, the more that you put into this organization the more it will give back to you. I am looking forward to seeing all of you as the year progresses. If you go to National Convention I will be looking for you at the Buckeye Bash. If you ever have any questions feel free to email me. I enjoy hearing from all of you.

Until next time keep it classy Ohio FFA.

College Life

Hey Ohio FFA,

I have just started my second day of classes at The Ohio State University: Agricultural Technical Institute. I had a great first day yesterday. I started my day out by working in the admissions office for a hour. Then I had my math class and I got homework on the first day, I was a little bummed out about that but what do you expect. After math I had a break for about two hours where I did my math homework and ate lunch. After lunch I an orientation class that is designed to let us know about the different opportunities offered at ATI and how we can get involved. I had another hour break after that class and then I had one of my lab classes where we learned about dynos and how to run a dyno test. I learned a lot from the lab and had a great time. I had a metals class after that where we learned about metal lathes. By the time the day was over and I made it home it was about 10pm. I have had a great time a college so far. I hope that everyones school year is going good so far as well. I am looking forward to seeing anyone who will be attending Greenhand Camp.

Something New
August 28, 2007 12:43 PM

Hey Ohio FFA,

We had our third meeting a couple of weeks ago where we presented our workshops so that we could get them revised to make them the best that they can be. After the meeting some of the officers went to the Great Darke County Fair. I have to say that it was an awsome time.

I stayed with Allen for a couple of nights and watched him show his sheep. On the first night we decided to go and get some food, and we pulled into an Arby's drive through and sat there for about five minutes just to decide to leave and go to Taco Bell. I have never done that before and I don't think that I will do that ever again. The next day the officers came and we spent the day looking at the animals. Brittani decided that she wanted a stuffed cow, and she could not win it playing skee ball and decided to pay ten dollars to win it at another game. Once the others left Allen and I fed his sheep and went to bed. The next day Allen had to show so I helped him get his sheep ready. I was going to go home that day but we never made it back to Allen's house to get my car so I stayed another night and went home the next day.
