One Week Countdown
April 25, 2008 8:55 AM

That's right. Only one more week until we open up the first session of the Ohio FFA State Convention. I am extremely excited about that.

When I last blogged I told you all about Senior Pie in the eye. Well guess what?? It was nasty. I thought I had gotten out of it by flipping the pie back up in Tim's face. However, Emily came up from behind me and got me pretty good. It was a lot of fun though. I also have some great news. My Grandma had the surgery and is out of the hospital. I have been her nurse and I am going to miss her a lot next week because I have been with her so much the last couple weeks. She is doing great though considering she had a pacemaker put in and all.

Other than taking care of my amazing Grandma, I have been busy preparing for the best two days ever, convention. I also had my prom on the 19th. I had a great time and it defiantly helps end my senior year of high school. Wow I graduate in a month. Hard to believe. I leave tomorrow and we are all meeting on Monday to start preparing. It is going to be a long hard week of working, but it is going to be a lot of fun too. It is hard to believe it has only been a year since the last convention. But it is here and I can't wait.

Well I will see all of you in a week. Seniors it is almost time for graduation. Just keep trucking. :-)

State Officer Interviews and Banquets
April 15, 2008 9:18 AM

So the past week has been crazy busy for me, as I am sure for many others. Last Monday I went and picked out my senior pictures and I am pretty sure that is one of the hardest things I have had to do ha. It is pretty much amazing that school is almost out and I am almost graduated.

Last Tuesday night I had a banquet at Fayetteville High School, which is our neighboring school. My sister, Emily Lodwick, and Jana went with me to represent our chapter. I was extremely happy to see that I was speaking before dinner so I didn't have to worry about getting something on me or eating too much. I didn't present my banquet speech because Mr. Winkle asked for something a little bit different. It was fun being able to talk in front of not only members I know very well but parents as well. The banquet was run very organized and I was completely impressed by how the members put it all together. Mr. Winkle's son had quite a bit of fun with us and pulling his little wagon around. He looks so much like Mr. Winkle it is kind of scary. He is absolutely adorable though and he had a lot of fun at the banquet too.

Friday morning I got up bright and early to get ready for the weekend. I headed to Columbus for a State Officer Meeting all day Friday. After running through the script several times and getting everything else ready for convention it was time for bed. I fell asleep pretty quickly which was good because the next morning came really early. We all got up and ready to go to OSU Campus for State Officer Interviews. After the State President Interviews I went to my post, which was at the "Why I Desire" room. I had a great time hanging out with the members. Especially when my room got backed up and I had like 8 members at one time to chat with. Jeremy Grove and Andrew Bond ended up hanging out with me for a couple hours. We had a good time though. I also must add that our lunch was pretty much amazing too.

After a long day of interviews I headed out of Columbus to a Banquet at John Glenn High School. I got there a little early but had a great time getting to know some of the retiring officers. Then it was time for dinner. They had a potluck dinner, which I thought was really cool. They had someone make all the meat and then everyone else brought food from home. It turned out really good and there was a ton of food. Especially in the dessert pile which I didn't mind at all. I had the pleasure of sitting by the Vice President and Treasurer and we had a good time especially during dinner. I heard lots of funny stories. After a great banquet I started on my 3 hour trek home. I made it home around midnight or 12:30 and then slept in Sunday morning instead of going to church because I was dead tired.

Sunday night I spent all night in the hospital because my grandma had passed out at dinner. We finally made it home around midnight. After school yesterday I went back down to see her and she is doing better. They luckily can fix it with a surgery or hopefully anyways. Now I am just rushing around getting things done for convention and my chapter banquet. Tonight are the elections for our new officer team and it is Senior Pie in the Eye that I am not looking for in the least bit. It will be a good time though. Well Ohio I better get to work on the many things on my to do list. Two weeks till Convention!!!!!

Back to School Again
April 1, 2008 8:58 AM

So spring break went by really fast this year. Anyone else agree with me on that? Well the Tuesday before break we had a freshman and sophomore parly pro competition at our high school for the county schools. It is something we always do and it really helps them learn for the officer team. I was in the room with Mr. Dyer and Mr. Phipps who were our judges and Anna from Ohio Valley CTC. We had a lot of fun in there judging all the teams and there were a lot of good teams there!

After a night with Anna and Mr. Phipps, I got up bright and early to make my way to Ohio Valley for a chapter visit on Wednesday. I had a blast with all the members there. I did one big workshop with everyone at the same time. They had some interesting card houses and let me be the first to say that them colliding in the plastic wrap game was pretty funny. It even helped me make a good point. Who would've thought?? After our workshop their president and vice president took me on a tour of the school. It was pretty interesting. I was definitely impressed!

Wednesday after I got home from Ohio Valley I got changed really quick and made my way back to my school for the County FFA Girls Basketball Tournament. It was a good time and Western Brown pulled out a win with only five girls in the last game. I got to keep the score and ring the buzzer. Must say that is a lot of fun :-).

Thursday we all met at the school at 5:30 to go up to Mercer County for the judging competition. As soon as that was over, Becca, Jana, and I left for Lexington to get on our flight to head to Florida to meet our parents. Florida was a great time and we have some pretty funny stories. I got a tan and everything. Just in time for Prom! We flew home on Thursday night the following week to get home in time for dairy judging practice Friday morning and State Judging Saturday morning

State judging went pretty well. Our Dairy Judging team placed third in the state so now we get to go to Wisconsin in the fall to compete. I am pretty excited about that. It is hard to believe that judging is already over.

Next week I have two Banquets and state officer interviews. I also have some chapter things like 8th grade orientation and such. It is going to be a fun week. Hope you all are having fun BACK IN SCHOOL. It is almost done with for the year and convention is a month away!!!

Spring Break Anyone?
March 17, 2008 9:02 AM

I don't know about you, but I am defiantly 100 percent ready for spring break to begin. This past week was a very hectic week. Thursday morning I got up bright and early to head to the wonderful city of Columbus for a Board Meeting. I finally got my schedule and lesson plans back because Mr. Hoffman kindly brought them with him. I had left everything in my briefcase at Hillsdale and I never realized how much I actually used that stuff. It was fun catching up with all the teachers and some of the State Officers. Lyndsey didn't get to be there because she was on her way to Costa Rica. How lucky, huh? The meeting was over at around noon and after a nice lunch I headed back home to the big Mt. Orab!

All week long I kept myself busy helping Lara, a freshman in my chapter, on Creed for state Competition and getting myself ready as well. After all our hard work Saturday was finally here. We woke up at 4:30 to meet Mr. Griffith at school. Fun fun! Lara was planning on sleeping the whole way but she was crazy hyper and well let's just say that there was no sleeping from anyone! When we got to Columbus we walked over and saw the State Officers getting ready for Practice State Officer Interviews and then headed over to get Lara ready for Creed. When she was separated from Griffith and I, I honestly believe that I was more nervous than she was. I could barely stand it. I was extremely excited for her though because we both made top four. It was a good day!

Saturday night, after I got home from Columbus, Justin, Katie Mc, and myself had to get ready for the Blanchester Lock-in. We got to Blanchester High School at around 10:45 that night. It was fun getting to catch up with everyone and getting to do our workshop for the Presidential Election 2008. The people there were a great time. We left at around 2 am to make our way back to my house. I had been up for about 24 hours so I was completely exhausted. It had been a very long, but great day!

This week I have several things going on. I will blog all about it when I get back from Florida next week in time for State Dairy Judging. Hope everyone has a safe spring break!!!!

BLIZZARD!!
March 11, 2008 10:26 AM

Hey everyone. I know it hasn't been too long since I blogged but I had to let you all know about our wonderful snow!! The most snow we have had down here in Brown County was in 1978 and we had 12 inches that year. This past weekend we managed to get 15 inches in the big Mt. Orab!!!! O yea!! No one down here is use to snow like that so it was a pretty good time. Friday our school let out two and a half hours early because it was getting so bad. After it snowed all night everyone was pretty much snowed in where ever they were. We were put on a level three snow emergency, which means you can get a ticket if you are on the road at all.

Saturday morning I woke up and wanted to go play in the snow. Jana, Becca and myself got all bundled up and headed out into the Brown County Blizzard. We slid down our hill on sleds for a while, had a snowball fight, wrestled in the snow, and then were attacked by our dogs. Our big dog, Reese, thought the sled was a frisbee and attempted to bite it out from under us. Our little basset hound, Ellie, was so shocked by the snow because it was taller than her. It was a pretty good time and we have lots of pictures to show.

It is pretty sad to say that it is all almost gone because it has been 50 degrees for two days. I think it will be our last winter blast for the year. I am kind of glad it is almost over but I will defiantly miss the snow.

I hope everyone is staying warm and safe!
